Google Voice is a free (International calls require purchasing credit) internet-based call forwarding solution that allows you to create a unique phone number that can be set to forward calls to your landline, cellphone, tablet, or computer.
It can be handy when you want to avoid giving out your personal cell/home phone number but still want to provide a way for people to contact you. Need a work-related number? This is a good solution.
There are a lot of useful settings. You can add contacts, text and voice message, receive transcripts of your calls and messages, block users, and more.
1 The first step is to open Google Voice by visiting voice.google.com and click Sign in
2 Click Continue
3 Click Search by city or area code
4 Click Select the number you would like to use from the available list.
5 Click Verify
6 Click Enter a phone number and enter the phone number that you would like your calls to be forwarded to from your new number.
7 Enter a phone number
8 Click Send code
9 You will be sent a text to the cell number you entered. Type in your verification code number.
10 Click Verify
11 Click Finish
12 Click Finish
13 Now that we've set up a Google Voice account, let's go over some settings and features. Click the settings icon in the upper right corner.
14 If you'd like you can choose to add an additional phone number such as a landline. click Add new linked number
15 Click Enter a phone number
16 Click Send Code.
17 You can get email alerts for missed calls by clicking the highlighted link.
18 You can set your Google Voice to a "Do no disturb" mode by clicking the highlighted link.
19 You can record a personal greeting for your voicemail. Click the Record a greeting button.
20 You can choose to filter spam calls. Click the highlighted link.
21 You can send text messages by clicking on the messages button.
22 And then click send a new message.
23 You can then type in the phone number that you wish to message.
24 To check your voicemail, click on the voicemail link.
When you first create your account, you will have a message from Google. These are basics of Google Voice.
